THE AWARD-WINNING ON AIR TALENT OF INDIANA
Communications: Media Production
Alexander Donaldson is a prominent student in the Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s (IUP’s) communications department, studying Media Production. His contributions in communications were felt early, as his play-by-play commentary won the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Student Award for "Best Live Sports Broadcast" in 2020, with HHTV (Hatboro – Horsham Television Network). After earning his Eagle Scout Award, Alex would enroll in IUP, logging over 150 hours in just his first 2021/22 school-year by working with the college’s Center for Media Production and Research. In his time studying at IUP, Alex has had three dean’s list honors and won two additional NATAS awards. Whereas industry professionals win Emmy’s via the NATAS, college student productions receive the equivalent “Crystal Pillar” from the same institute. Alexander Donaldson has been the play-by-play talent for back-to-back Crystal-Pillar-winning live football productions, both in the Fall of 2021, and sequentially in the Fall of 2022. In the same year Alex represented the school's Phi Delta Theta chapter at the 84th Biennial Convention, he was also selected as a delegate to represent IUP at the proceeding 2024 NABC Conference. In his Junior and Senior years Alex worked with the IUP Hockey Team, traveling to every scheduled game during the year to setup, manage graphics for, and simultaneously provide play-by-pay coverage during the live broadcast of hockey games. He took his talents to an internship position at Renda Media Broadcasting, where during the Summer of 2025 he provided three live daily sports reports and hosted a daily radio program on WCCS 101.1 FM/1160 AM. Alex has since continued his employment at Renda, currently serving as a digital production assistant for remote broadcasts.
